Now you can get a cone of crispy pakora to go.

Move over crêperies, brasseries and patisseries. Sydney has just scored it’s very first fritterie, an Indian street food stand that specialises in popcorn pakora to go.

The popular Dehli street food is made from grated vegetables in a spiced chickpea batter, which are deep fried in hot oil.  At Flyover Fritterie, they’re served in paper cones and drizzled with a homemade tamarind and fennel chutney. You can also get them mixed into a khichri stew or tucked into a soft bun with pickled beetroot, lettuce and cashew chutney.

The vegan fritters will be made fresh daily using seasonal vegetables – think zucchini and kale or pumpkin and cabbage – with the ingredients changing up every few weeks.

The traditional accompaniment to pakora is masala chai tea, a culinary coupling thats considered the Indian equivalent of coffee and cake.  Alongside your cone, you’ll also be able to get a mug of small batch soy chai, which will be available hot or iced.

Starting from June 12, Flyover Fritterie also plans to host a creative event series in their hidden laneway location. Running from 5:30pm – 7:30pm, the first session will include urban sketching, live music and creative talks, paired with hot chai and menu tastings.  For more details, head to their website.
