It's also ditched the plastic wrapper for recyclable foil.

To celebrate its 90th birthday, iconic chocolate frog Freddo has been given a 3D redesign to bring it up to to date with the modern age.

The new Freddo of the future will feature a pinata-inspired belly, filled with edible candy treasure in colourful space and underwater-inspired shapes.

The new-look chocolate treat will also lose the plastic wrapping for recyclable foil packaging. The new wrapper will reveal four looks inspired by the theme of adventure, including space suits, snorkels and swimmers, with new themes introduced every year.

Marketing manager for Cadbury Kate Watson said the new way to enjoy Freddo was another exciting chapter for the much-loved character. “For 90 years, Freddo has given generations of Australians shared moments of wonder and joy. During what’s been a challenging time for us all, Freddo 3D Adventure encourages us to be free-spirited and adventurous, urging us to embrace our curiosity and appreciate the world around us.”

Freddo 3D Adventure will be available Australia-wide in a treat size of 25g for $2.50 from September 23.
