Gourmet spice merchants Gewürzhaus release a fancy chicken salt for your pommes frites

Chicken salt.

And it even comes in a pocket-friendly mini tin.

The thing about chicken salt is, they never seem to give you enough. Rather than trust your local chook shop to get it right, you can now get your hands on a pocket-friendly mini tin of gourmet chicken salt so you’re never left high and dry.

The small-batch seasoning is made by Melbourne herb and spice merchants Gewürzhaus. Unlike most neon powders, it’s MSG-free but don’t worry, it still tastes good – and by good, we mean somewhere between Smith’s chicken chips and Maggi noodle seasoning. Like all chicken salts, it doesn’t actually contain chicken, instead, it gets its umami punch from toasted sesame and kelp, along with garlic and onion powder, and a little coconut sugar for sweetness.

Beyond the usual hot chips, Gewürzhaus suggests trying the salt on fried cauliflower, roast chicken, and tempura fish, but really, why stop there.

Gewürzhaus Australian Chicken Salt is available in a 150g jar ($19.50) for your home cooking needs as well as a pocket-sized 10g mini tin ($8.95) from gewurzhaus.com.au.
