Kewpie mayonnaise has launched a yuzu flavour

Yuzu Kewpie.

The cult condiment has been given a citrus kick.

Everyone’s favourite easy squeezy Japanese mayo has been given a bright pop of citrus, thanks to the inclusion of yuzu.

For those unacquainted with yuzu, the East Asian citrus fruit is known for its tart and zingy flavour, which is similar to lemon or grapefruit.

The new condiment is designed to be used with seafood dishes, such as sushi and sashimi as well as Japanese classics like tempura, takoyaki and okonomiyaki. You can also squirt it on your sandwiches, burgers and fries – we won’t tell.

Unlike other mayonnaises, Kewpie uses egg yolks only, which gives it a richer taste and creamier mouthfeel than its western counterpart. Its slightly tangy flavour comes from the addition of Japanese rice vinegar.

Kewpie Yuzu Mayonnaise is now available to purchase for $4.90 for a 300ml tube from selected supermarkets, including Coles, with full distribution expected in the coming weeks. For more details, head to kewpiemayomadebetter.com.au.
