The menu will include fine-dining versions of the KFC classics, including popcorn chicken with celeriac soup, a gravy candle served with a potato bun, and liquid nitrogen chocolate mousse.

Hold on to your bucket hats, diners. Nelly Robinson, chef and owner of Sydney’s refined nel. Restaurant has formed an unexpected partnership with the Colonel to create an 11-course KFC Degustation experience.

The limited-time offering will run for three nights from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 April at a secret venue in Alexandria and will see classic KFC dishes given a theatrical treatment in Robinson’s signature, imaginative style.

Even the humble potato and gravy has been given a fine-dining makeover: picture a gravy candle (yes, a gravy candle) melting into a warm gravy puddle, in which you can dip a fresh potato bun. This is not your average drive-through dinner.

“As a lifelong fan of KFC, creating an 11-course degustation with their most-loved menu items and elevating them to new heights has been a dream come true. For the menu, I’ve taken 11 KFC dishes and reimagined how the flavours and textures come to life using my expertise in degustation menus to truly blow fans away,” Robinson said.

The degustation menu will include such elevated KFC orders as ‘Supercharged Wings’ cooked over charcoal; the ‘Tongue Twister’ that encourages its eater to pick up their plate and lick a stencil art recreation of the Colonel’s face; the Twisted Sister (a spin on the chain’s Twister) with pearl barley risotto, sundried tomato, pumpkin and Chicken Tenders; Popcorn Chicken served with celeriac soup, mushroom gnocchi, basil and a floral garnish; and the La Di Da Drumstick dusted with quinoa.

And for dessert? Chocolate mousse has been dipped into nitrogen to form melt-in-your-mouth bites. For those who’re fond of the 11 herbs and spices, these 11 courses are bound to delight.

Fine wines will be paired with each of the 11 courses, to be served at $75 per person. And, all profits made will be donated to The Black Dog Institute, ReachOut Australia and Whitelion.
