Spread the news: Magdalena Roze is launching an all-natural, preservative-free mite

Oomite.

And it's mitey tasty, too.

From sugary cereals to preservative-laden spreads, there are few ways to start the day that are actually good for you. For those who care about the contents of their condiments, television presenter and passionate foodie Magdalena Roze has announced she’s launching an all-natural mite called Oomite made from real ingredients.

“Over two years ago, my friend Katie Graham and I had the same idea: we love mite but wanted to make a savoury yeast spread that is not only delicious but great for you and made from 100% real natural ingredients, and no colours, numbers, preservatives or flavours,” she said.

The new toast topping is said to have a similar taste to other mites, like Vegemite, Promite and Marmite. “It’s mitey and yeasty, and has this delicious umami kick that hits the back of the palate,” Magdalena said.

The delicious. contributor has already tried it out on her husband Darren Robertson, the chef and co-owner of the Three Blue Ducks, and her son Archie.

“The chefs and kids that have tried it love it, which is the best feeling,” she said.

The mite is designed to be eaten on hot buttered sourdough or can be used in cooking, like cheesy Oomite scrolls.

With the recipe now perfected, Magdalena hopes to have the jars in cafes soon, but concedes it might take a bit longer than expected.

“Coronavirus has thrown a few spanners into the works with logistics and supply chains, and our original plan – which was to sell through our favourite cafes. We are hoping to get our next batch soon, so we can get it into our favourite cafes as and when they open up.”
