And only one person per household can go shopping once a day.

Woolworths, Coles and Aldi in Melbourne will deny entry to customers from 7:30pm and shut their stores at 7:45pm for the next six weeks, following the announcement of a new coronavirus curfew.

On Sunday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews declared a State of Disaster in Melbourne and ushered in a new round of stage 4 restrictions, which include an 8pm – 5am curfew for metropolitan Melbourne to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The new 7:45pm closing time will also apply to liquor retailers, including Dan Murphy’s, BWS, First Choice Liquor, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars.

“To ensure we are following government guidelines, the last customer will be allowed to enter our stores at 7.30pm every night and all our stores will close at 7.45pm, unless a store’s existing trading hours already specify an earlier closing time,” Coles said in a statement.

Under the new stage 4 restrictions, only one person per household can go shopping once a day. However, if you are unable to leave a young child or at-risk person at home alone, then you can take them with you.

Travel is restricted to within 5km of your house, unless your nearest supermarket is further away. Fines of $1,652 will apply for anyone breaching restrictions.

Victoria is expected to announce 429 coronavirus cases today, which is a drop from 671 yesterday.
