The world-famous street food has landed Down Under.
With over 400 outlets across Indonesia, it’s an understatement to say Martabak Pecenongan 78 is a hit. The popular chain specialises in martabak, a sweet dense pancake that’s loaded with toppings like condensed milk, chocolate, nuts, toasted rice and cheddar cheese.

The street food is wildly popular across South East Asia and the Middle East and now, Melbourne’s very own Lygon Street. The thick pancakes are fried in butter, stuffed with sesame, peanuts, chocolate, Toblerone, durian or cheese before being folded and slathered in even more butter.

There’s even a vibrant green pandan pancake that will brighten up your Insta feed.
The Carlton outlet is the first Martabak Pecenongan 78 to hit Australia, bringing with them a whole swag of traditional Malaysian hawker-style dishes like kulit ayam goreng (fried chicken skin), yamin manis bandung (thin egg noodles with garlic, sweet soy, chicken mince and vegetables), and ceker kaki lima (chicken feet).

The totally OTT pancakes though are the real drawcard though and South East Asian ex-pats can get a taste of home while locals can get their first bite of the world-famous folded flapjack.
