Get ready to turn that frown upside down.
Spotted a familiar face in the freezer aisle lately? McCain Potato Smiles have returned to supermarket shelves after a five-year absence, bringing back happy childhood memories for many.
However, you might also notice that they’ve also had some work done. Now called EmotiBites, the mashed potato snack features the same smiley faces, alongside new sad and shocked expressions, as well as little devil faces.
McCain said the decision to bring back Potato Smiles came from overwhelming demand, with more than 50 per cent of their Facebook requests related to Potato Smiles. In the US, there is even a change.org petition demanding McCain bring back Smiles.

McCain Foods marketing manager Karen Ramsay said: “For many Australians, these are something they’ve looked back on fondly as part of their childhood. After years of build-up, it’s heartening to know that they’re meeting expectations,” she said.
Ms Ramsay said McCain had decided to rebrand Smiles to bring them in line with the modern era.
“In the 90s, Smiles were a classic for the pre-digital era, now they bring the same joy, but updated to reflect today’s social world,” she said.
Ahh McCain, you’ve done it again.
EmotiBites are available from selected supermarkets for $4 a packet.
