Yeah, baby! 60's-inspired Thai restaurant and bar Naga opens in Brisbane

Naga Brisbane.

We're picking up on some seriously good vibes.

A foodie revolution is happening at Brisbane’s Eagle Street Pier. While the precinct undergoes a significant revamp, restaurateurs Andrew and Jaimee Baturo have opened a groovy new 60s- and 70s-inspired Thai restaurant and bar to kickstart your swinging summer.

Naga’s interiors have been brought to life by Anna Spiro Design, the studio behind Arc Dining and Wine Bar and Mr. Percivals. Inspired by the 60s and 70s, the new venue features an eclectic fit-out of superbold colours and fabrics, which is matched to a soundtrack of non-stop retro tunes.

The food menu, however, has been brought into the modern age. That’s right, no orange segments and curly parsley garnishes. Ex-Libertine chef Suwisa Phoonsang has put together a menu of modern regional Thai dishes, from Moreton Bay bug pad thai to seafood dumpling green curry (below) and grilled massaman beef milk buns.

Diners can either pop up at the 10-metre-long bar for stunning views across the Brisbane River and Storey Bridge, or pull up a chair in the lantern-strung dining room.

On the drinks list, you’ll find cocktails with tails. Or at least, that’s the case for the #dontbekoi, a strawberries and cream concoction made from gin, crème de fraise liqueur and strawberry coconut mousse served in stunning koi-shaped glassware.

The psychedelic theme continues with a bright purple Violet Femme made from colour-changing butterfly pea flower gin and violet liqueur, and a Happy Beach Pina Colada, spiked with pineapple rum.  There’s also a spice-friendly wine list that includes low and no-alco options, with vinos available by the glass, bottle and carafe.

Peace out.
