Make a day and night of it as this reborn King Street Wharf bar and nightclub.

It’s long been one of Sydney most popular harbourside venues, now, after a major revamp undertaken by recent owners Dixon Hospitality group, Bungalow 8 has reopened with a bright and stylish look and a new food and drink menu.

At King Street Wharf level, the redesign means bold geometric-symbol tiles in relaxed pastel tones in the bar, while in the generous outdoor space, blond wood and stainless steel tables contrast with bright-yellow and olive-green chairs. Together, the new look creates a chilled beachside villa vibe to go with the water views. Upstairs in The Loft nightclub, rich plum, greys and timber create a more luxe feel.

The new-look menu is by executive chef Justin Wise, and along with modern Australian beach club classics – think schnitzels, burgers, steaks and seasonal salads – Wise has gone big on seafood, inspired by a trip to French Polynesia.

That means dishes like pan-seared mahi mahi, poke bowl, soft shell crab rolls and, to top it off, a seafood platter for two including mud crab, scallops, oysters, prawns, cured salmon, bugs and squid. If meat’s more your thing, the master-stock braised pork hock will hit the spot.

Says Wise: “We’re bringing Bungalow 8 back to life. We’ve created a menu and a space where you can easily imagine yourself in Tahiti or Bora Bora.”

The refreshed drink menu includes a good selection of boutique beers, local and international wines, and – perfect for long afternoons in the sun – jugs of summer-inspired cocktails. Look out for a Sloe Down Charlie, comprising of sloe gin, apricot brandy, fresh-pressed watermelon juice, lime, mint and soda, or a Great Grape Cooler – grape Kool Aid with green apple Smirnoff, shiraz, lemon, berries and lemonade.

Whatever the occasion or time of day, Bungalow 8’s new direction is designed to deliver good-time vibes with a side serve of Sydney Harbour views.
