Home sweet home.
Twelve months after a fire ripped through the kitchen at Nomad, the much-loved restaurant has reopened at its former Foster Street home, complete with an impressive fit-out, dedicated deli and hot new grill.
As far as Nomad is concerned, it’s not a case of once burnt, twice shy. The new menu, once again, revolves around their signature wood fire oven, which has been joined by a new double-sized charcoal grill, giving them twice the firepower as before.

“I’m so happy to have the fire back so it’s no surprise it’s the primary focus of the new menu,” executive chef Jacqui Challinor said.
“There’s a lot of new dishes we’re working on, but the staples have remained, some with a few little updates and tweaks. The heart and soul of Nomad’s food will stay the same.”
Locals can expect to find a few of the old favourites on the menu, including the burrata with fennel jam, zucchini flowers with truffle honey and pecorino, cold smoked Petuna ocean trout basturma and olive oil ice cream sandwich.

The new menu includes some of the best produce in the country, as determined by the 2020 delicious. Harvey Norman Produce Awards, including a wood-roasted Bruny Island Saint cheese with lardo and Malfroy’s Gold honeycomb, and Andean Sunrise potatoes with harissa, toum and guindilla.
Meanwhile, a new standalone deli will offer an expanded selection of their famous house-cured meats, available for both dine-in and takeaway. Build your own charcuterie platter with new slices like the David Blackmore wagyu 9+ girello bresaola, Borrowdale free-range pork belly pancetta and Maremma duck mortadella.

The wine list will also be available for dine-in and takeaway, with a focus on small producers from Australia and beyond. “We’ve extended our cellar capacity and with more back vintages becoming available, we’re taking the opportunity to offer our diners a more extensive list,” co-owner Rebecca Yazbek said.
The interiors have been given a lift, including new kitchen counter seats which now number 30, as well as new plush green leather banquettes.
Nomad has reopened at 16 Foster Street, Surry Hills. To make a booking, head to nomadwine.com.au.
