It's official, frozen yoghurt is cool again

Hey, another round of strawberry for me and my friends!

Remember every shopping strip circa 2014 when it seemed that out of nowhere, shiny white stores with neon signs of cartoon fruit had seemingly been dropped from outer space?

Polished tiles, air conditioning cranking and frozen yoghurt as far as the eye could see. It was as if the frozen yoghurt trend exploded onto the scene, replaced half of the Thai restaurants in major cities, then just, sort of… vanished.

As far as wholesome ways to pass the time are concerned, hanging out at the fro-yo shop was a tasty and, comparably, healthy way to do it. So the resurgence of the frozen yoghurt shop has got our inner 15 year olds practically giddy and we don’t even need to use our pocket money or call Mum for a lift home afterwards.

Yo Chi Source: Yo Chi

Contender for coolest fro-yo in town has to be Yo-Chi, with stores in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia and, if the lines are anything to go by, they’re worth the wait. Yo-Chi is also the success story of the 2010s fro-yo explosion, having first launched in 2012 in Melbourne and absolutely smashing it ever since.

Fro-yo looked like it was doomed to go the way of the cronut, or the OTT milkshakes, or perhaps even bacon-topped doughnuts: franken-food fads that kicked goals in excess but left plenty to be desired – particularly when the tummy aches kicked in.

But after a few stressful years of eating whatever we wanted, drinking far too much, and watching the gradual decline of style-over-substance food made solely for Instagram, it’s nice to see that this former trend of yesteryear is coming back for real this time.
