The new offering is a more casual callback to the region's maritime history.

One of Sydney’s most enduring restaurants Pier One has unveiled its new restaurant, PIER Dining, opening on May 1. The harbourside venue will replace The Gantry and showcases the best of Sydney’s rich seafood history in a relaxed, seaside setting.

Situated in the Walsh Bay precinct, PIER Dining offers a connection to Sydney Harbour both through its location right on the water and through a menu that weaves in the story of the underwater forest that resides around the historic beams on which PIER Dining is built. The beams stretch 30 metres into the sea to reach the deepest part of the Harbour, as well as reaching deep into Sydney’s maritime history that has leaned so heavily on oysters and crabs that call the shoreline home.

The seafood-driven menu features produce from nearby shores in refreshing takes on familiar favourites, such as a King George whiting ‘parmi’ or a campanelle carbonara made with house-cured kingfish collar in place of pancetta.

Unsurprisingly, the Sydney rock oyster is the star of the menu, which can be enjoyed freshly shucked with spiky mignonette, or charred with smoked wagyu fat and coconut vinegar.

“For the past eight years, Pier One Sydney Harbour has led with fine-dining degustation and chef-selection menus”, Pier One general manager, Kim Mahaffy said in a statement.

“After listening to our guests and the local community we have evolved the restaurant to celebrate a more casual and relaxed style of dining. PIER dining is perfect for a quick pre-theatre bite or a more leisurely dining experience,” Mahaffy continued.

Dotted throughout the venue are striking and deeply “Sydney” touches including seaweed-inspired art on the walls, environmentally friendly coasters by Sydney-based designer Defy, as well as seaweed salt jars created by Dinosaur Designs.

For the ultimate introduction to PIER Dining, the restaurant is offering a share-style four-course chef’s menu for just $109 this May for American Express delicious. Month Out. Get the details here.

PIER Dining is open Tuesday to Saturday, 5:30pm – late at 11 Hickson Road, Dawes Point. To make your booking head to the PIER Dining website.
