Sem sav blanc is apparently the corona-vino of choice

Here’s what Aussies are ordering from mobile bottle-o, Jimmy Brings.

Like many alcohol retailers, on-demand delivery service Jimmy Brings has seen alcohol sales surge this month, with many Australians confined to their homes.

Over the last two weeks, they’ve experienced a 152% increase in bottle sales compared to the same period last year.

Right now, the order of choice is a bottle of semillon sauvignon blanc, which is the favourite varietal across all cities, compared to the usual pinot grigio. The most popular red is cabernet merlot, and for beers, it’s Corona, which has seen a 34% increase in sales.

Party packs are also up 17% despite the fact that social events and gatherings are now banned. However, these party bundles are more likely just another way for customers to stock up, with larger orders now the norm.

Jimmy Brings claims to deliver beer, wine and spirits in 30 minutes, and operates in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Perth. They are currently recruiting for more drivers.

Like bottle shops around the country, Jimmy Brings has added buying limits to its booze, capping purchases at two cases of beer, cider or premix, 12 bottles of wine and two bottles of spirits.

To protect their drivers, Jimmy Brings is now offering low-contact delivery. While they can’t leave alcohol unattended, the carton is placed on the floor and they stay with it until the customer is sighted.
