Surry Hills is set to get tropical this August with the opening of Tiki-themed Tucano’s at the long- Cafe Lounge space on Goulburn Street.
From the team behind glamorous mid-century Potts Point institution, The Roosevelt, who also operated pop-up bar About Time in the CBD, Tucano’s will bring a tropical twist to the hospitality group. The tiki-inspired cocktail bar will lean heavily on amaros, vermouths, and of course, rum.

The fit-out is all palms, bamboo and paintings of toucans on distressed plaster walls, giving it an ‘always-been-there’ kind of energy. And with the snacks on offer, you won’t want to leave. The Tucano’s team, led by general manager Steve Davis, has brought on chef Naomi Lowry (Biota, Pilu, By Fassnidge) to put tropical spins on Mediterranean classics.

Hiramasa kingfish bruschetta with yuzu aioli, jalapeño salsa verde and fermented chilli to get things started, and a totally tropicana rhum baba with salted mascarpone and passionfruit for a touch of sweet to end.
Tucano’s will open in August at 277 Goulburn Street, Surry Hills. For more details, head to: tucanos.com.au.
