Cook along with Vue de monde in this new online series

This week, they're making hot cross buns.

As you can’t visit Vue de monde right now, the Melbourne fine diner is coming to you. After shutting its doors last month, the restaurant has returned by way of an online portal. Called Vue to You, the new website delivers a bounty of content, from weekly cooking classes to sommelier-led wine talks and an online shop, stocked with fresh produce and ready-made meals.

Starting this Friday, April 3, Vue de monde executive chef Hugh Allen will star in a new online cooking series that will teach people how to recreate some of the fine diner’s most famous dishes at home. “We’ll be showing people how to make some of our recipes from start to finish and they’ll be able to cook along with us at the same time,” Allen said.

If you’re unable to make it to the shops, Vue de monde has put together a curated cooking kit, filled with all the dry ingredients required to make the online meal.

The free series will kick off with chocolate soufflé, a decadent dessert that has graced the menu since the restaurant first launched, followed by hot cross buns for week two.

“We’ll be including a mix of recipes for varying skill levels,” Allen said. “Some will be super easy and others will be a bit more complex. The soufflé is pretty straightforward actually, so as long as you’ve baked a cake before you should be all right.”

Masterclasses will be uploaded to the Vue to You site on Fridays and shared exclusively with delicious. across their social channels.  For those wanting to work on their wine knowledge, you’ll also find weekly wine classes by Vue de monde master sommeliers, Dorian Guillon and Carlos Santos Simoes.

The online store will also sell sourdough bread, croissants and hot cross buns from Shannon Bennett’s bakery, Burnham Bakery, as well as fresh produce, pantry staples and curated food boxes.

For those who want the results without the hard work, you will also be able to order restaurant-quality ready-made meals, such as roast chicken with barbecue corn and pumpkin gratin or native seafood stew with coconut rice and flatbread. “They are pre-cooked and ready to go, you only need to heat and serve,” said Allen. The entire Vue de monde wine list will also be made available online, with highlighted favourites from the somms each week.
