They are specifically looking to hire people who have lost their job in the coronavirus pandemic.
With stores now operating long hours and demand at an all-time high, many supermarkets are seeking extra hands to help restock shelves and drop-off deliveries.
This morning, Woolworths announced they are looking to hire an additional 20,000 staff members. The grocery giant says it will be specifically looking to hire people who have recently lost their job due to the coronavirus pandemic, particularly those in the travel, hospitality and retail sectors.
The 20,000 positions will be short-term contract roles, with opportunities across the company from restocking shelves to cashier and checkout duties, as well as in the distribution centres.
Brad Banducci, Woolworths CEO said: “We will have more hours for existing team members and additional roles to fill as we focus on meeting the needs of our customers and communities.”
“Our immediate hiring focus is the redeployment of our ALH team members impacted by this week’s mandatory hotel closures.
“We’re also preparing to offer up to 5000 short-term roles to Qantas Group employees taking leave without pay including more than 1500 to our distribution centres.”
Last week, Coles advertised for 5,000 new employees, which drew over 36,000 applications. ALDI has also announced that the German grocery chain will be looking to hire a significant number of recruits in the weeks ahead.
