We just became a morning person.
Up until now, the best coffee you could get at the supermarket was a jar of Nescafe Gold. Thankfully, that’s all about to change. This month, Woolworths will be lining its shelves with premium Campos beans, which are considered the crème de la crème of the artisan coffee world.
Woolworths will be stocking the Campos Superior blend, which is the house coffee used in all Campos cafes. Made from four different bean varieties, the blend is said to taste of sweet red fruit with caramel and chocolate notes.
What will also make that cup taste better is knowing that the beans were sustainably and ethically sourced. The company has a zero-tolerance for inhumane working conditions and unsustainable farming practises, and its Superior blend is fair trade and certified organic.
Founder of Campos Coffee Will Young said Australians prize high-quality coffee and for a long time, this has not been reflected on supermarket shelves. “Australia is a specialty coffee-drinking nation. There is no other population so wedded to high-quality beans. It is only recently that the same quality coffee has become conveniently available to this population through progressive grocery stores.”
“Our quality for the Superior rests at 86 to 86.5 (on the 100 point Coffee review scale)—I doubt there’s anywhere in the world where you could buy a level of bean this high in a nationwide grocery store.”
Better yet, the beans will be even cheaper than what you would pay at a Campos café or online. Woolworths will be slinging the Superior blend for $14 per 250g, $25 per 500g or $45 per 1kg bag of beans. Campos Coffee is now available from all Woolworths stores nationwide.
