It’s hard to beat a good cocktail bar that’s only an elevator ride away from a five-star bed.
Get ready to swing from the chandeliers. Next week, the Rockpool Dining Group will launch a glamourous new golden age lobby bar at the base of the Crown Towers in Melbourne.
“R Bar is an ode to the cocktails of the Great Gatsby era,” Rockpool Dining Group culinary director Neil Perry said. “We’ve taken our inspiration from some of the world’s best hotel lobby bars and put our Rockpool spin on it, which means working with boutique, Australian producers and distillers and adding our signature razzle-dazzle.”
More than just a hotel waiting room, the impressive double-height room will be dressed to the nines, with the space revealing dark timbers paired with sweeping velvet curtains and curved banquette seating. The centrepiece will be a chandelier of hand-blown glass adorned with 40 sculptural pendants.
The drinks list will revolve around golden age cocktails, made from barrel-aged spirits along with house syrups and shrubs. Guests will also be able to order a martini service, which will include two wet, two mid and two dry vodka and gin martinis, poured and garnished at the table.
The bar will also pay tribute to classic hotel cocktails, with offerings like the Singapore Sling from Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the Bellini from Harry’s Bar and the Manhattan Sour from Manhattan’s Bar.
Naturally, they’ll be food too, with R Bar serving up a classic American-style deli menu, which will include premium tinned fish, olives, charcuterie and cheese as well as freshly shucked oysters, Caesar and Waldorf salads and New York-style deli sandwiches.
R Bar will open in the Crown Towers at 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank on July 26.
