Swing by for a slice of the world's most Instagrammed cake.
It appears Sydney is being forced to share its world-famous Strawberry Watermelon Cake with Melbourne (again), with celebrated patisserie Black Star Pastry popping up in St Kilda for the summer.
Launching Monday, November 25, the new store will be stocked with all the staples, from its Raspberry Lychee Cake to its Pistachio Lemon Zen Cake alongside the main event, a sweetly-perfumed Strawberry Watermelon Cake, layered with fresh watermelon slabs, rose-scented cream, strawberries, pistachios and almond dacquoise. The store will also sell Danishes, croissants and ginger ninjas.

While Melbourne will have access to six cakes and almost all the sweets, Sydney will be withholding its lamb shank pie, with a handful of new savoury pastries to be created just for Melbourne.
Slotting into Acland Street in St Kilda, the slick new shop sees concrete fixtures paired with black and white detailing, while playful neon signs colour the space, alongside their mouth-watering multi-tiered desserts.
Black Star Pastry St Kilda marks the second pop-up for the patisserie, with the first held in Carlton in 2017, followed by a special appearance at the Night Noodle Markets in 2018.

“Melbourne’s appetite for Black Star Pastry made returning an easy decision, but this time we wanted to give Southside a sample,” says Black Star Pastry’s General Manager, Josef Murray.
“We’re particularly excited to open on Acland Street – an address synonymous with incredible cakes – and add another flavour to the broad tourist appeal of this storied beachside suburb.”
The Black Star Pastry pop-up is set to run from Monday, November 25 until Easter 2020, which means you’ll even get their hot cross buns.
