All pink everything - including sandwiches. Words by Samantha Teague.

Fans of one very famous bow-wearing anthropomorphic white cat, take note. A Hello Kitty Cafe has popped up in Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre and it’s oh-so adorable – and very Instagrammable.

Think pink walls covered in bows, pink chairs, pink banquettes – and pink sandwiches. The latter is in the shape of Hello Kitty’s face and stuffed with fresh cream and strawberries. Elsewhere on the (pink!) dessert menu, you’ll find chocolate-covered strawberries, apple pie (Hello Kitty’s favourite dish) and cookies.

On the savoury side of things, there are egg sandos (the Japanese 7-Eleven favourite), chicken sandos and fried chicken with a side of Hello Kitty-shaped rice. Drinks are as colourful as the rest of the store: think iced strawberry matcha lattes, peached iced tea, milkshakes and a lemonade refresher with strawberry, passionfruit, peach and Ribena.

It’s open from 10am all the way through till 9pm – daily – so you can stop by for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or dessert. The cafe is just one part of the shopping centre’s month-long Hello Kitty celebration, in honour of the cat’s 50th anniversary, which also includes a 9-metre-tall Hello Kitty sculpture by Australian graffiti artist Sofles, a pop-up shop with Hello Kitty merch and a Hello Kitty claw machine.
