The dessert king has shifted to savoury with new wagyu beef pie and prosciutto, potato and béchamel pies.
Reynold Poernomo already established himself as the dessert king. He’s one of the few MasterChef contestants that has successfully transitioned from TV to running his own restaurant.
And now he’s got a new one.
KOI Pastry Bar opens on Friday at Darling Square as part of the Maker’s Dozen, located inside the Exchange building.

What makes it different to Poernomo’s KOI Dessert Kitchen is that the menu will change weekly and customers are in charge of what will be on it.
So if the caramelised almond tart with poached pear is popular this week, it will be back on the menu next week. If it doesn’t have a big fan-base, it will be replaced with something better. Other sweet treats will include signature Koi pastries such croissants, canelés and freshly-baked cookies.

There’ll also be savoury options such as pies with wagyu beef, carrot, leek and red wine jus or potato and prosciutto with bechamel and Gruyere.
Poernomo is known for his creativity, so there will also be one-off pastry drops of something special available for one day only. Unless, of course, customers demand it return.
So, the more you like something and the more you buy it, the more chance you’ll have of seeing it back on the menu. Win-win.
