Located thousands of miles away from its namesake beach, owners Mark Alston and Guy Turland have brought their famous Sydney-style café, Bondi Harvest, to Culver City in California.

Channelling the surfer-chic vibes of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Bondi Harvest combines rattan lighting fixtures with timber panelling and a wash of ocean blue to create a sleek, coastal-inspired space.

Like all good Aussie cafes, the menu is made up of brunch classics like brekkie burritos, acai bowls, sangas, smashed avo toast and Bondi favourite – the green smoothie. Unlike its sister cafe in Santa Monica, the Culver City venue will stay open for dinner, revealing an upscale menu that includes a flat iron steak with lemon myrtle sea salt and barbecued prawns with salsa verde butter, prompting unwanted American impressions of “put another a shrimp on the barbie”.

Bondi Harvest trades up the filter coffee for Melbourne-quality espresso, from silky flat whites to almond milk lattes, with beans supplied by Aussie export Vittoria Coffee. Naturally, they also do fresh fruit and whey smoothies, with clean eating adds ons like collagen, spirulina and cannabis oil. For those who don’t have a yoga session to go to, there’s also Four Pines beers and wines from down under.
