In the age of social media, a venue that isn’t Instagram-friendly just isn’t an option. But Toby’s Estate have gone above and beyond with the design of their latest space. This coffee house sits on the ground floor of the new Commonwealth Bank office building in Darling Square in Sydney’s CBD. Studio Tate is behind the venue’s opulent aesthetic, crafting an ode to traditional treasury design via the incorporation of varying shades of marble accessorised by plush velvet seating.

The space is divided into a range of different seating options, including high bars, lounge settings, booths, and communal dining spaces.

Bullnose bench tops, brass kick rails, high bars and upholstered velvet seating help to accentuate the opulent vibe of the eatery.

Rich tones and metallic finishes were specifically chosen to evoke traditional treasury design and reflect the neighbouring Commonwealth Bank building.

The existing patterned marble flooring was a source of inspiration for the coffee space’s darker colour palette.

A ‘vintage sensibility’ lay at the heart of the design firm’s vision for the space.
