One would usually have to sit through a multitude of savoury courses before getting one of Yves Scherrer’s expertly made desserts. However, if you’d rather skip straight to sweets, you can now try one of his sugary creations at his new French patisserie and boulangerie in Clovelly.

Yves’s boutique bakery sells a variety of sweet and savoury goods from classic cakes through to viennoiserie, tarts, quiches, pies, bread, and gelato, all made using the best ingredients that money can buy. The menu also includes some of his most celebrated desserts including his chocolate and orange “traveller’s cake” from est., his salted caramel eclairs from Ananas and his toasted sesame ice cream from Sake.

Glass displays filled with perfectly preened creations, from mirror-glazed domes to slender, sugar-studded eclairs, make it impossible to walk past without peeking inside. Tartlets are piped with lemon curd, chocolate ganache, and coconut mousse while butter croissants are pumped with raspberry jelly and dipped in melted chocolate. They even do artisanal gelato in flavours like toasted sesame, vanilla bourbon and lemongrass sorbet.

Part patisserie part boulangerie, Madame and Yves also sell sourdough loaves, baguettes and rye bread. For those after something savoury, there’s quiche Lorraine and flaky French pies from beef and red wine to a creamy chicken mornay.
