Sydney’s specialty bakery spreads its wings south of the border with a Victorian endeavour.
Shortly it seems that Sydney will not be the only place to get your hands on Black Star Pastry’s beloved strawberry and watermelon cake, with the specialty bakery announcing plans to move south of the border. Now with three outlets spread throughout Sydney (Rosebery, Newtown and the CBD) the treat mecca has announced plans to open its first shop in Melbourne.
News of the Victorian endeavour was announced on the Black Star Instagram page, captioned simply with ‘We can’t wait Melbourne!’. In a press release the bakery explained that the Victorian arrival will be a pop-up concept.
“We will be setting up shop next to Cafe Italia in Carlton for at least three months with a select menu of our most popular items (including our core cake range).”
There’s no doubt that the bakery’s signature watermelon-based dish will be on the menu. The cake has amassed a cult-like following since Black Star’s 2008 birth with the shop producing up to 4000 portions of the cake in a single night.
