Starbucks' latest creation is sending the internet into a meltdown

Starbucks

The coffee house announces a major move.

Is a lack of artificial colours and flavours getting you down? Never fear, Starbucks’ Mermaid Frappuccino will have you back riding that sugar wave in no time.

Inspired by the coffee giant’s logo of a twin-tailed mermaid, the new frappuccino includes a melon and cream flavoured beverage base and is topped with blue vanilla whipped cream and pearls of purple and pink sugar.

Launched early last week, the Mermaid Frappuccino is the newest of the chain’s limited edition drinks and photos from sugared-up customers are already flooding social media channels.

Starbucks has a penchant for creating somewhat ridiculous drinks, from elaborate teas to the Unicorn Frappuccino that preceded this new creation (or monstrosity, depending on how you look at it).

The mega-chain is not, however, the only company embracing food colouring in their creations, with rainbow bagels now dotting the windows of bakeries worldwide, and rainbow cappuccinos attempting to make their foray into the coffee world.

But alas, the Mermaid Frappuccino will only be with us for a fleeting moment – the limited edition drink will likely only be around for a few weeks (there are only so many pink sprinkles out there).

This impermanence isn’t the only thing that may hinder your ability to get your hand on the drink. The Frappuccino is only available in Starbucks’ Mexican stores – so you may as well pay a visit to Riviera Maya while you’re there.
