Continuing the extensive renovation of Prahran’s hip The Smith, Smith and Chips is set to bring a modern take on the classic Aussie favourite of fish and chips. “We are really pleased to see the last part of the puzzle come to life and we are excited by what Smith and Chips will bring to the area,” said Simpson. “So many Australians grew up with a fish and chip shop close to their homes, and we have taken that bit of nostalgia and created a really interesting addition to our business from it, adding some fun and sophistication at the same time,” he said.

With bright, bold and playful elements throughout, the venue also features a German-designed retractable glass roof, giving punters the year-round option of enjoying the summer rays or escaping the winter rains. #winwin

If dining in isn’t your thing, the venue also offers take away options for those on the go. “We wanted to create something that was new and fun, giving people an option to enjoy something really casual in the property, and still be able to have a drink at the same time,” said owner of The Smith, Michael Lambie.

As well as offering the traditional battered, grilled or crumbed selection of seafood, the menu also includes a number of impressive street food options including these steamed bao with Korean fried chicken and spicy gochujang and crispy battered barramundi tortillas with avocado, pickled ginger and wasabi mayo.

Industrial-style finishes are met with lush green elements throughout the venue.

Sides include options like this dish of Mexican-loaded fries with jalapeno and black bean as well as raw apple slaw with fennel, ponzu and lime.

Crispy soft-shelled crab with green chilli.

Dessert options include this chocolate dulce de leche with cherry and pistachio as well as an offering of ice cream.

Smith and Chips opens September 14th at 5.30pm. Opening hours are 11.30am til late, daily.
