Former lawyer Anna Rogers and wunderkind pâtissier Megan Bowditch first teamed up on a hockey field. Now they run Prove, a business that produces thousands of pastries a week to sell around the metro area, including from their new Magill Rd store. Chef Marvin Lattrez went from prestigious restaurants in France to a café in the tiny town of Tumby Bay. Now he and wife Grace have moved L’Anse to a bigger community in Port Lincoln. The creative brunch and lunch menus have proved popular but many in the weekend queue won’t get past the pastries. Set your alarm. You need to get to this boutique shop early to taste one of Alex Crawford’s cult-loved croissants, where foodies are happy to line up for more than an hour ahead of doors opening. Tap, tap, tap – there’s no denying the crisp exterior of Clement Labaere’s traditional croissant, which makes way to supple, well-seasoned, buttery layers. You can opt for the raspberry version, with a layer of jam, pain au chocolat or pain aux raisins. The bright, playful interior of this Hutt St café/bakery is bound to lift your spirits – even before considering the tarts, buns and pastries displayed beneath a glass case.
