After successfully relaunching the former Madame Brussels CBD rooftop as Japanese izakaya Disuko late last year, MAMAS Dining Group (Hochi Mama, Straight Outta Saigon, and more) revealed Spaghetti Club in Richmond. Cobb Lane bakery revealed its more ‘grown-up’ CBD store on Bennetts Lane, which aims to cater to a busier city crowd. Frank Ciorciari and Anthony Silvestre teamed up with Mount Eliza local Natalie Osborne to open a Peninsula outpost of their Malvern East gourmet market Breadcetera. Fourteen dollars doesn’t buy much these days, but it does buy you anything on the menu at CBD bar-meets-bistro Frenchie. At the Paris-inspired venue from New Zealand restaurateurs Julian Diprose and Lucas Boucly, every plate and drink will come in at $14 or less. In a space dripping in red velvet, mirrors and marble, the menu of plats à partager (share plates) includes steak entrecote, a classic salad niçoise, confit duck leg and more. A precinct is growing around Jonny’s Green Room this year, with three new venues popping up in the historic corner site recently anchored by beloved deli King & Godfree. Garfield, the first of the three, is now open beside Pidapipo, with the gelateria supplying its signature soft serves. The casual pizzeria is slinging slices both nostalgic and unexpected by culinary director Karen Martini and executive chef Mark Glenn (Cumulus Inc., Dinner by Heston), who will oversee the food at all the new venues.
