If you find yourself strolling along the sun-kissed shores of Bondi Beach and craving a delicious slice of pizza, look no further than the newly minted Ta Ta Ta Pizza. This beachside gem is the brainchild of Shlomi Palensya, who worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe so it goes without saying that these slices are going to be top-notch. Toppings on Ta Ta Ta’s slices are sold by weight and run from margherita to zucchini flowers and beyond. 10 Gray Street, Bondi Junction; tatatapizza.com.au.
Got a carby craving? These pizzas by the slice are sure to hit the spot
“Even bad pizza is pretty good.” An acceptable adage to adhere to as far as we’re concerned, and though the author of those words may be lost to the halls of history, around Sydney there are certain slices that stand out from the crowd. Not simply because of their deliciousness but due to the fact that you can grab these ‘zzas by the slice to scratch the itch or leave room for more snacks. Either way, pizza by the slice is having a moment. These pizzerias are doing damn good things and are well worth a pop in.
Epic Pizza
With a name like that, diners can expect some pizza of truly epic proportions. Epic Pizza on Enmore Road has been slicing pies and delivering smiles to loyal hoards for years and come in giant slices of the Fat Tony (margherita), Ok USA (pepperoni) and Brooklyn Cheese (mozzarella, provolone, ricotta and parmesan) from $7. Mikey's Pizza
Originally established back in 2016 in Killarney Heights on Sydney’s northern beaches, Mikey’s Pizza has been reborn in another classic beach suburb, Bondi. Chef and owner Mikey Greenhalgh has brought his family-run, rock’n’roll-influenced pizzeria to Bondi Road and it’s an all-out love letter to the pizza parlours of New York City. Exposed brickwork and copper pipes, red neon signage as well as gingham vinyl tablecloths and a heavy-handed sprinkle of music memorabilia, Mikey’s Pizza slices range from taleggio cream-based confit mushrooms to the buffalo mozzarella and pepperoni New Yorker. 261 Bondi Road, Bondi; mikeyspizza.com.au.
Cherry Moon General Store
Sourdough croissants, pistachio and rose petal Persian love cakes and dark chocolate macarons may not be the most obvious signals of great pizza by the slice but that’s precisely what’s on offer at Cherry Moon General Store in Annandale. The bakery and cafe is deservedly famous for all things dough, an expertise that extends to rotating pizza specials including but not certainly not limited to woodfired cherry tomatoes, confit garlic and mozzarella with a dusting of parmesan cheese as well as the simple but totally delicious rosemary and mortadella. 77 Nelson Street, Annandale; cherrymoongeneralstore.com.au.
City Oltra
Life is at long last returning to the cavernous shop fronts at Central Station’s Eddy Avenue. Aptly named EDDY, the dining precinct has started strong with one of the area’s most exciting pizza by the slice joints. Born of the original pop-up at Poor Tom’s in Marrickville, City Oltra’s semi-permanent is here for a good time, not for a long time. Owners Ben Fester and Drew Huston (of former Dimitri’s glory) have signed a maximum lease of 18 months so you’ll want to get in quick for a slice. Artichoke puree with honey and gorgonzola; mushrooms with confit garlic; and pepperoni with ranch and red sauce are just some of the rotating slices available.
