Camperdown Commons has revitalised the old Camperdown Bowling Club site at 31a Mallett St Camperdown. Its outdoor spaces include a creative kids play area, an urban farm with rescue chickens and relaxed areas for lounging. Move indoors for community spaces for hire and for ‘Acre’ – a warm, sustainable restaurant with a kid-friendly menu (kids’ menu prices from $8). Pocket City Farms’ next kid-friendly workshop is ‘Edible Gardening for Kids’ on July 13.

Din Tai Fung has been described by a list of mums we talked to as being “fabulous for kids”. This dumpling chain with four venues around Sydney is modern, affordable and your kids will love it! Plus, these dumplings are the easiest way to make sure the kids finish dinner tonight.

The indoor playroom at The Henson will have your kids out of your hair for an hour whilst you enjoy the serene urban garden setting. There is a good selection of healthy food for kids that goes past the standard pizza and burger, perfect for lunch or an early dinner. Who doesn’t love a good Chinese restaurant, but don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll only find the Australian-ised deep-fried and heavy version here. Golden Century is perhaps one of Sydney’s best Chinese restaurant, boasting a menu that spans across a number of regions. Though of course, if the kids want lemon chicken or sweet and sour pork, you’ll easily find that too. The restaurant even has its own pram loading dock, too.

Open lunch and dinner, we recommend visiting the Bather’s for lunch to escape the crowds and take advantage of the ocean views. Put your feet in the sand and let the kids run around while eating a delicious lunch. Keep an eye out for kids specials (which include a main, soft drink and dessert for $15). #winning

This unassuming cafe tucked behind Deus Ex Machina off Parramatta Road is an inner city inside/outside dining experience, perfect for giving kids room to run off some steam after lunch. With all the usual classic meals for fussy eaters, plus some more exotic Asian dishes for mums and dads, this cafe is an all rounder for families. Certainly worth a visit during the school holidays.
