It looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for the daughter of British chef Gill Meller. The River Cottage head chef was out to dinner with his 12-year-old recently in Spain and had a less than impressive meal. But it wasn’t Gill who took the restaurant to town over the debacle, but rather his daughter Coco who wrote an impressive review on the back of a napkin.

“It looks like camp shop sh*t,” she writes. “I feel as if you calamari should be crispy and your garlic mayo is disgusting. Your water is warm and makes me chunder. You need to provide butter with your bread and clear the table when people are finished.”

But perhaps best is saved till last. “AKA your restaurant is hell in a shell,” she summarises.

Gill was obviously a fan of his daughter’s budding career as a critic. He posted a photo of her napkin review to his 22,000 followers alongside the caption: “Even first-hand restaurant recommendations can be way off the mark, unfortunately. Here with my youngest daughter’s review (left on a napkin) of tonight’s somewhat alarming supper.”

It looks like the next Jay Rayner has just been found.
