A 24-hour gastropub just landed in Brisbane

Beirne Lane

A 220-seat drinking den for Fortitude Valley.

Forget what you know about Fortitude Valley as a haven for night owls, the Brisbane hot spot is set to prove that it is as passionate about the culinary as it is its clubs.

This is thanks in part to the emergence of TCB & Co., a new development that wants to refresh the old laneways and buildings of the historic inner-city suburb of the Queensland capital. Seeking to establish the Valley as a go-to for diners, the development has recently welcomed a major gastropub into its ranks. Beirne Lane is what the group has deemed its ‘centrepiece’; a venue that comes courtesy of Trent Meade and Matt Blyth of the Celissa Group.

This is not the duo’s first foray into the hospitality scene, they are current owners of late night favourites (and Brisbane institutions) Isles Lane, GPO, and The Met. But their latest venue is perhaps their most ambitious. The 220-seat gastropub is housed in a former drapery, and in ode, named after its founder the Brisbane businessman Thomas Charles Beirne. Perhaps most intriguingly, the new venue won’t just be open seven days a week, but for 24 hours a day, meaning you can indulge your thirst or hunger cravings at whatever hour you fancy.

In-keeping with its nocturnal theme, the venue will be rather dark in its design, which comes courtesy of architect Pierr French and Sydney design squad AZB Creative. A rather sombre colour palette has been accessorised with plenty of tiles and greenery, with original features restored where possible, and a collection of plush booths in which to sit.

Fare comes courtesy of North Bondi Fish head chef Zac Sykes. He has interwoven Beirne’s Irish heritage with his own love for Japan, resulting in a rather eclectic selection of bar snacks and raw items among the more decadent dishes available. Stand-outs include the baked cob loaf with beer cheese, the chicken-fat popcorn, and a series of different takes on katsu sandos (Japanese sandwiches). Partner your main with a drop from the lengthy list of natural wines, or one of the many craft beers on rotation. Fans of a good old fashioned cocktail will also find a friend here. Our suggestion? The Beirne Lane’s tiki-style signature drink ‘Oh Boys! We Must Have Another!’
