Step aside Jocks, this year’s AO is all about the foodies.
The Australian Open may at its core be a tennis competition, but it’s not just the sport anymore that draws in the crowds to the much-lauded event. In fact, in 2018, it seems likely that a large foodie contingent will be present at the sporting match thanks to the addition of the swanky new fine dining establishment The Glasshouse.
The area will be home to the AO Chef Series – a set of food experiences that will see some of the world’s best chefs host pop-up restaurants, where fans will also have a chance to indulge in a good old fashioned meet and greet. There are four events in particular that foodie punters just can’t afford to miss:
1. A night with Peter Gilmore
For the first time in Melbourne, Peter Gilmore of Quay and Bennelong will be bringing his fare down south. The executive chef will be hosting an intimate dining experience of 5-courses for punters, complete with his pick of accompanying wines.

2. Angela Hartnett presents Murano of London
Michelin-star chef Angela Hartnett will also arrive in town for the event, bringing with her the famed food she crafts at London’s Murano restaurant. A 5-course degustation will be served based on modern, seasonal food with an Italian accent.

3. Alejandro Saravia presents Farmer’s Daughters
Chef Alejandro Saravia will be previewing new restaurant Farmer’s Daughters at the tennis this year. At the pop-up, he will showcase his love of regional Gippsland and its bounty of fresh produce via a farm to table shared menu. The 6-7 course meal will come accompanied by local wines.

4. Jake Nicolson presents Blackbird Bar & Grill
Two-hatted executive chef Jake Nicolson will be bringing a taste of Queensland to the event via a premium degustation menu. His feast will utilise the finest of the state’s produce, alongside a selection of hand-picked wines in a 4-course degustation.

The full AO Chef Series schedule can be found online, where tickets can also be purchased.
