Sydneysiders have a new place to go for a slap-up steak dinner, with premium steakhouse 6HEAD opening at Campbells Cove in The Rocks today.

The new venue has popped up in a prime location – the newly refurbished Campbell’s Stores, a set of historic waterfront warehouses with views across the harbour and Sydney Opera House.

Lamb Tartare.

Char will be the star of the menu, with diners able to sink their teeth into juicy, grilled steaks by top purveyors like Collinson & Co, Mayura Station and Tender Valley. There will be humble rumps on offer all the way up to a 450-day grain-fed wagyu eye fillet with a 6+ marble score.

Those looking to up their iron stores can choose from three colossal bone-in cuts, which include a dry-aged T-bone, rib-eye on the bone and a caveman-sized tomahawk. Steaks can be slathered in truffle butter or drenched in anchovy hollandaise, with sides like beef dripping potatoes and house-baked bread with beef butter.

The seafood platter.

Beyond the beef, seafood will also be a speciality with refined offerings like Sydney rock oysters, kingfish ceviche, tuna tartare – even beluga caviar, which is considered the crème de la crème of the sea.

6HEAD executive chef (and the man with the meat cleaver) is Sean Hall, who grew up on a cattle farm in Johannesburg before joining the Jamie Oliver Group in the UK. Hall has started his own dry-ageing program on site, which will see select cuts stored in special cabinets to further develop their flavour and texture.

To cut through all the richness of the menu, you’ll need a full-bodied red and there’s no shortage on the menu which lists an impressive 250 drops handpicked by Group Beverage Manager and Sommelier, Ben Preston.

The restaurant’s interiors are inspired by the historic setting, drawing on rustic materials like stacked tiles, stone and raw timber, to channel the building’s rich heritage. There will also be a sun-filled terrace for soaking up the views and fresh sea air.

6HEAD is the first in a series of new restaurants slated to open at Campbell’s Stores, with 300-seater Japanese restaurant Ura San expected to follow in a few months time.
