American fare has made it to Avalon.
A stone’s throw from Avalon beach comes a new dining destination inspired by Miami’s famous shake shacks. Sunset Diner is decked out with pastel pink walls and a relaxed beachside atmosphere, serving mouthwatering burgers and milkshakes. And it’s pooch-friendly to boot.

Executive chef and owner Ben Varela already has a long list of venues to his name, including The Royal Paddington Hotel, Bistro Moncur and The Collaroy. The menu keeps it simple with getting back to basics proving to be a big hit with guests.
‘The Burger’ is the OG no-frills favourite, a beef patty topped with lettuce, cheese and tomato, topped with the diner’s own sunset sauce. If a burger isn’t really your bag, try one of the griddle dogs with a signature frankfurter loaded with pickles, onions and mustard. Those watching their waistlines won’t be left wanting either, with a salad line-up to rival the burgers themselves. Our pick? The Sencha Salad which green tea noodles, edamame, avocado and miso mayo.

Those eager for dessert will be greeted by an extensive list of sundaes, including crowd-pleasing flavours like Cookie Dough, Key Lime Pie and Banana Split.
Beach-goers seeking a drink after a day spent on the Northern Beaches can enjoy a beverage list which includes wines, tap beers and cocktails. Though the non-alcoholic offering is arguably more fun, with old school milkshakes nostalgically topped with whipped cream and a cherry.
