Potts Point residents are in luck, a luxe brasserie is en route from team Pelicano

Franca

Prepare to bid bonjour to Franca.

While he may be best known for lively Double Bay institution Pelicano, Andrew Becher’s latest venue is a far cry from the night owl favourite. Becher’s new foray has taken a decidedly Gallic turn with the arrival of a luxe French-style brasserie to Potts Point.

Franca is named after Lingua Franca, the language spoken between those who do not speak each other’s tongue in the Mediterranean. As you may have guessed, fare will be an ode to the region, with a heavy slant towards traditional French fare, with a few modern twists thrown in the mix. Those who prefer to perch at the bar will also be happy to note that it will offer both the full dining menu as well as a selection of small bar bites.

Becher has arrived with an impressive team in tow – Alex Cameron has been named as partner and general manager of the venue, joined by executive chef Alexis Besseau (of Bather’s Pavilion and Est.), and group bars manager Alex
Raclet (of Rockpool Group and Pelicano). Pairing the food will be a wine list from sommelier Ambroise Moriceau (of Rosetta), who has free range of a temperature controlled wine room hosting more than 250 bottles collected from France and Australia. The award-winning Raclet will be in charge of the cocktails, which come inspired by grand European destinations.

“Our focus for Franca will be to offer outstanding food and exceptional service in an upmarket setting and still be very comfortable and relaxed,” explained Becher of his new concept. The restaurant will settle into the ground floor of the Ikon building where Fratelli Fresh once sat. Currently under construction, Franca looks set to fully embrace traditionally decadent brasserie style with interiors courtesy of design firm Steel and Stitch.

Franca will open in June 2019.
