You won't believe where Anna Wintour dined in Melbourne last night

Anna Wintour

The US Vogue editor and longtime friend Roger Federer caught up at this fine dining favourite.

Perhaps almost as famous as Anna Wintour’s trademark crisp bob is the US Vogue editor-in-chief’s devotion to tennis. Not only does the New York-based Wintour rise at a sprightly 5am each morning for a game, but she’s a rather devoted fan, making herself a regular at the sport’s various competitions around the world.

This year’s Australian Open was no different, with Wintour making a surprise appearance to watch longtime friends Roger Federer and Serena Williams play. After Federer was booted from the competition by young gun Stefanos Tsitsipas, he drowned his sorrows with Wintour and his wife Mirka over a decadent lunch at delicious. contributor and chef Guillaume Brahimi’s Bistro Guillaume in Melbourne.

While the Crown Casino in which Bistro Guillaume sits has declined to comment on its high profile visitors, it’s rather easy to guess what Wintour decided to indulge in that day. The editor is famous for enjoying the same protein-heavy lunch daily – namely a steak accompanied with garden salad and (naturally) devoid of dressing. Being a French bistro, her lunch destination of choice luckily does have Gallic favourite steak and frites on the menu (a Grainge Signature 300 Day Grain Fed MBS 3+ Steak Frites, Sauce Bearnaise to be precise). But we are fairly certain Wintour would have passed on the chips. After all, fast food is her worst nightmare, or so she confirmed to James Cordon during an appearance on his show last year.

Federer and Wintour have not only been close friends for the past decade but the editor is an outspoken fan of the tennis star. “She has a soft spot for Swiss player Roger Federer,” The Telegraph has reported. Wintour went so far as to gush over Federer’s sporting prowess in print, writing an editorial piece for Tennis.com last year. “Fan is quite an understatement. I have flown across the world for his tournaments; I’ve endured agony when he’s been a set down and ecstasy when he’s stormed back; I have even missed more than the occasional fashion show – all for the privilege of witnessing Roger play what is surely the greatest tennis of all time,” she wrote.
