It’s already been named the delicious.100 No.1 restaurant in Victoria – now a modern Turkish eatery in Balaclava has been crowned the best in Australia.
For the first time, as part of the annual delicious.100, we’ve ranked the top 15 restaurants around Australia and Coskun Uysal’s Turkish meze delighted critics who ranked it their number 1 restaurant in the country.

Chef Alanna Sapwell’s Arc in Brisbane took out the runner’s up gong, while Sydney hotspot Alberto’s Lounge came it at number 3.
Peter Gilmore’s revamped fine diner Quay on Sydney Harbour and Rinaldo di Stasio’s Melbourne glamour den Citta were ranked fourth and fifth in the country respectively.
Gather by Coriole in the Maclaren Vale and Orana helmed by new MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo were South Australia’s entries into the top 15, while in Tasmania, Agrarian Kitchen and Franklin came in at numbers nine and 13.

The Yarra Valley’s Oakridge was named number 6 in the country, with Pilot in Canberra also making an appearance.
With fans including Nigella Lawson who said Tulum made her “heart sing”, Uysal transforms local produce into modern mix-and-match meze that celebrates the various regions of Turkey with artful flair.

“When I came to Melbourne as a Turk and as a chef, I felt frustrated that the vision of Turkish was of kebabs, cheaply made kebabs, with meze that just taste of raw garlic,” Uysal says.
“I was furious about this, so I though as a chef, I have to do something about this.”
Opening Tulum in Balaclava in 2016, a refurbishment of the Carlisle St restaurant earlier this year heralded a new chapter and new direction for the restaurant, transforming from degustation-only to a meze menu where few dishes cost more than $20.
Our new November issue features the first national delicious.100 guide, which features reviews on the top 10 restaurants in every state and territory.
Kerrie McCallum, delicious. editor-in-chief, said the list was designed to help diners eat out well every week, and for every occasion.
“It’s got a fresh point of view, with categories that focus on what readers are really looking for when they book a restaurant.
“We want this lift-out to be savoured with restaurants circled and well-thumbed pages turned over in anticipation for a year of great eating to come.”
