Acre Eatery is headed for Burwood.
The inner-west is hardly a precinct renowned for its greenery. But that’s all beginning to change thanks to the arrival of eco-focused offerings like the Camperdown Commons, a former bowling club transformed into an urban farm by Pocket City Farms and Camperdown Project, and its neighbouring restaurant Acre Eatery.
Proving itself a popular oasis for locals and visitors alike, Acre is now opening a second venue as a part of the Burwood Brickworks. Replicating the same concept as Camperdown Commons, Acre Farm and Eatery is due for completion later this year and will form a part of a new development which also consists of 700 homes, parkland and what’s promised to be the world’s most sustainable retail outlet.

This focus on sustainability will see the inclusion of a roof that functions as a 2000-square-metre urban farm and a dining precinct in one. Expect to see beehives, chicken coops, composting and worm farms, greenhouses, and garden beds galore. The new Acre has promised that the venue will be able to yield as much as four times the amount of produce that Camperdown grows currently and that it will be just as community-friendly as the model that Pocket City Farms pioneered, with workshops, farm tours and produce swaps all on the cards.
Fans of the original Camperdown Commons will be pleased to note that the new incarnate will follow the same mantra as the first – think an on-site cafe, full-service restaurant and bar that will utilise produce grown on-site. Acre Camperdown’s head chef Gareth Howard will be consulting on the dishes as the new space, which will again focus on casual, seasonal, and organic food.
