This month, the lobby lounge of The Westin Melbourne will transform into an elaborate Willy Wonka-themed bar, where big kids can get their sticky hands on candylicious cocktails and Dahl-esque desserts.

Darren Purchese and his team at Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio have collaborated with The Westin’s culinary team to create an over-the-top, sugar-coated menu, with offerings like the Black Forest, made from cherries, chocolate twigs and a warm chocolate river, and the Fizzy Citrus Burp, a lemon brûlée spiked with orange jelly.

Continue the sugar high was one of four candy cocktails. There’s a Violet Beauregarde-inspired Blueberry Gumball, shaken with vodka, blue curacao and raspberry cordial and garnished with fairy floss or the Pure Imagination, a dark chocolate concoction sprinkled with edible gold glitter.

Burch & Purchese have also created an impressive edible garden, made from chocolate and all-natural food colouring, which will be on display at the front of the bar. Taking inspiration from the book, the intricate 3.4m chocolate installation is made from soil, made from chocolate cake crumbs, planted with lollipops and chocolate toadstools, plants and flowers and adorned with floating candy butterflies.

Guests that make a purchase from the Wonka Bar may find themselves the lucky recipient of a ‘golden ticket’ with free luxury accommodation at the hotel up for grabs.
