Everything you need to know about the Philip Street outpost.
While once the Sydney CBD may have been limited in its eating options to white tablecloth venues and takeaway chains, those days now seem far behind us. If you needed any further proof, you’ve found it with Newtown favourite Continental Deli moving in among the skyscrapers.
The Continental Deli and Bar comes courtesy of Porteno’s Elvis Abrahanowicz, Joe Valore and Mikey Nicolian. Partnering with chef Jesse Warkentin, the team opened Newtown’s Continental to rapturous applause. And while a sequel to the eatery was on the cards for Abrahanowicz, he didn’t expect it quite so soon.
“We’re always looking to do something else and this space popped up unexpectedly,” he said. The keys will be handed over to the space within a matter of weeks, in which the creation of the dubbed Continental Philip Street can get underway.
Doors are expected to open in late June, with an offering that shares some entities to the original, but won’t be a carbon copy. “There will be similarities to the original venue but, as always, the experience will be something entirely new,” Abrahanowicz promises. Fans of the Newtown hub need not be anxious, for the appearance of house-cured meats and cheeses, and a plethora of house-canned goods has already been confirmed.
As for canned cocktails, our fingers are crossed.
