Introducing Darling Square's The Exchange.
Neighbouring Darling Harbour and Haymarket, the burgeoning $3.4 million Darling Square development has now been in the works for some time. The latest food hub to hit Sydney’s inner-city was first approved back in May 2017 and is only now nearing completion.
The district looks set to be a hive of activity, housing 1500 residential units, 26,000 square metres of commercial office space, 12,000 sqm of retail, community and leisure uses, 1300-bed student accommodation and 590-room luxury hotel, the Sofitel all promised as a part of the precinct’s offerings.
At the district’s centre sits The Exchange, the Kengo Kuma-designed building which has been placed on the market for $70 million by its developer Lendlease. The nest-inspired building sits on the former site on the Sydney Entertainment Centre and will become the new home for the City of Sydney, alongside a library and a slew of new food offerings.
Of course we’re most interested in the food contingent, which continues to expand. Lendlease has just announced more additions to its pre-existing offerings at the Makers Dozen food collective within the building. Joining Japanese pasta collaboration from Hamish Ingham, Rebecca Lines and Kerby Craig, Bucket Boys bar and bottle shop, Saga, and Mr. Bao Buns will be six new retailers.
The newbies of the ground-floor development will include the hawker-style Hopper Kadé, poke bowl purveyors Fishbowl, sustainable seafood café Fish & Co, modern fusion Vietnamese Bau Truong, combined bubble tea and florist Bubble Nini, and Sydney’s Spanish favourite, Tapavino.
