Introducing The Den.
Hotel restaurants weren’t traditionally the most sleek of establishments, but that’s certainly changed in recent years. If you were after proof you need only look to the likes of the Old Clare Hotel in Sydney, and Jackalope (and Doot Doot Doot) on the Mornington Peninsula.
The growing trend is only gaining ground throughout the country, with Adelaide’s Mayfair Hotel the most recent accommodation option to welcome a chic eating space within its grounds. The venue’s second restaurant The Den has just landed on the ground floor of the King William Street hotel; a grandiose art deco-style eatery that’s open for brunch through dinner. The design here is statement-making, with the bistro adorned with mirror-tiled walls, Louis Poulsen Ph artichoke wall lights and suede booth seating.

But The Den is built for locals and hotel guests alike says Mayfair Hotel general manager Martin Radcliffe: “Since opening 3.5 years ago, the Mayfair Hotel has been welcomed and embraced by both locals and visitors to our city. The creation of The Den is reflective of our desire to continually improve and innovate the property, and to optimise the Mayfair Experience.”
Open daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm, The Den’s kitchen is led by food and beverage director Robert Parsons and executive chef Bethany Finn. There’s everything from coffee and cake to the more elaborate of dishes here. Those who prefer more traditional hotel fare will also find it on the menu; there’s a lengthy ‘Hand-Held’ section which boasts the famed Mayfair Club Sandwich with confit chicken and streaky bacon.

There’s something for everyone says Radcliffe: “At The Den you can enjoy a great coffee and house-made cake, a drink from our extensive wine, beer and spirit list accompanied by light tasting plates, or a bistro-style dinner presented with excellent service and the attention-to-detail by which the Mayfair has become known.”
