The famous faux-meat burger is making its way to Australia

The beef backed by Leo DiCaprio and Bill Gates is partnering exclusively with one Sydney restaurant.

Conversation around faux meat (and meat alternatives in general) continues to generate quite a lot of heat (ignore the pun). But no matter which side of the fence you are on, you’ll likely be dying to know just what this meat-that’s-not-meat tastes like.

Now Australians will be able to nibble on the faux meat for themselves when the burger’s creator Beyond Meat partners exclusively with chain Lord of the Fries. It makes total sense for the 100 percent vegan ethical fast food joint to become the first proprietor for the meat patties, which has been endorsed and financially backed by eco-friendly celebrities including Bill Gates and Leo DiCaprio.

This will be the first Australian restaurant to bring Beyond Meat into stores. The burger is said to look, cook and even bleed like a traditional burger, with the same amount of protein, less saturated fat and cholesterol, and more iron.

The Beyond Meat burger will launch across all venues in April and will be available as a part of the original and the spicy burger for an additional $3.50. The pattie is to be grilled and topped with vegan cheese, lettuce, sliced onion and tangy pickle, and smothered in its own Belgian Mayo, mustard and ketchup. The spicy burger, on the other hand, will swap the pickle and sauces for Tabasco tomato sauce, jalapenos and chilli mayo.

“It is an absolute privilege to be the first Australian restaurant to launch this fantastic innovation on our menus,” says Lord of the Fries co- founder Mark Koronczyk. “We have no doubt that this burger will be a showstopper among existing and new fans, and we can’t wait to offer everyone this exclusive taste test!”
