Everything you need to know about Fleet's new Mexican restaurant

Fleet

La Casita is the latest addition to the booming Mexican scene of Byron Shire.

Fleet, the fine diner that put sleepy Brunswick Heads on the map, continues to prove a foodie force to be reckoned with. The intimate restaurant owned by partners in business and life, Josh Lewis and Astrid McCormack, is considered a must-visit for those trekking through Northern New South Wales. Now, joining Fleet and sister venue, the casual cafe Ethel, is Lewis and McCormack’s latest venture, neighbourhood Mexican La Casita.

Settling in the former site of Gringos Fresh Mex, La Casita has been a long time coming with the space purchased mid-2018. The Australian food scene has been watching the movements of the Latin-inspired haunt, with Fred’s Danielle Alvarez commenting that like many, “I have high hopes for La Casita in Brunswick Heads.” La Casita is the latest addition to a wave of new Mexican eateries joining Byron Shire, following in the likes of Chupacabra and Locura.

Little has been shared of the new venue, though sneak peeks have been revealed via Instagram throughout the eatery’s facelift.

But opening day is now imminent, with the duo revealing that the 40-seat casual space (which translates in English to small house) is largely situated outdoors thanks to an ample courtyard. It’s there that guests will be able to indulge in Lewis’ simple, Oaxacan fare, crafted from local produce. Food will be served with an array of mezcal, alongside a beer from local brewer Yulli that’s been made from ancho chilli and coriander seed, and called Astrid Arribas Cerveza.

No opening date has yet been set, though La Casita promised followers the kitchen would be up and running by January 25.
