World's first NFT restaurant to open in NYC

The extravagant club will be home to an upscale restaurant, omakase bar and cocktail lounge - but you'll need an NFT to get through the door.

Some restaurants are harder to get into than others and at the top of that list is the Flyfish Club, an exclusive new dining precinct with an unusual membership program.

To get through the door you’ll need an NFT purchased via cryptocurrency. An NFT (non-fungible token) is a unique digital asset that can be securely stored or traded on the blockchain.

The token will give you access to the 10,000 square-foot private dining club, which will be home to an upscale restaurant, an intimate omakase bar (which will serve seafood flown in from Japan daily) and a vibing cocktail lounge, with additional perks depending on the level of membership.

The new venture is slated to open in New York in 2023. The Flyfish Club was launched by the VCR Group and is helmed by American entrepreneur and Resy co-founder Gary Vaynerchuk.

VCR have secured some top talent from the hospitality industry to head up the venue, including Josh Capon of Lure Fishbar and Conor Hanlon of NoHo Hospitality.

The concept has proven so popular that there are currently no new tokens available, with 1,501 sold to date and 1,534 reserved for the company.  Punters paid roughly 3.8 Ethereum for the privilege, which is the equivalent of $12,481 at the current exchange rate. If you want access to the omakase, top-tier membership is priced at around 7.8 Ethereum, which converts to $25,620 – and these prices are just to get in the door. Apparently, you still have to pay for your food and drinks once inside (and you’re welcome to use cash or card).
