Anna Polyviou’s giant gingerbread carousel has landed in Sydney

Our Christmas wish came true.

Like a fairy tale brought to life, pastry chef Anna Polyviou has created a giant gingerbread carousel, which is currently on display at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney.

The Punk Princess of Pastry and her team of elves worked around the clock to deliver the candy carousel, which is made from 750kg of gingerbread and decorated with 300kg of lollies and 100kg of royal icing.

While you can’t actually ride the carousel or steal any treats from it, you can, however, console yourself with a festive high tea beside the Christmas tree. The festive high tea event will see a spread of Santa’s favourite snacks, from a Christmas bauble inspired dessert, cherry pie, trifle, alongside scones and sandwiches.

Otherwise, if you’ve got gorging in mind, there will also be a pop-up dessert store where you can get your hot little hands on mini gingerbread houses ($65) gingerbread ninjas and mohawks ($10), fruit mince tarts ($14 for 6) Christmas puddings ($48) and Buche Noel logs ($65).

The merry-go-round, pop-up store and festive high tea will open daily at the Lobby Lounge, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney from November 29, 2019 – January 5, 2020. For more details, head to shangri-la.com/sydney.
